We Are |
Working to empower individuals and communities by honoring culture & tradition through exploration of artistic expression.
ROOT of FIVE uses the elements of Hip Hop culture as a foundational tool and reference in all of our work. Specifically focusing on the fifth element of Hip Hop, Knowledge. The fifth element highlights the importance of education, empathy, and authenticity in the arts; and is a constant reminder that culture, community, history and identity is the core of our artistic experiences. |
Our History |
Kinga McCraven was born and raised in Western Massachusetts to two world-renowned folk and jazz musicians. Growing up in a multi-cultural house constantly overflowing with creativity and artistic opportunity, Kinga quickly recognized and developed her own skills in Dance, Theater & Visual Art. She spent her formative years touring as a theatre ensemble artist.
While in college she majored in cultural studies through dance, and began teaching in the arts. While teaching, Kinga had the opportunity of practicing Henna and Face Paint on her students which soon turned into a deep passion. She continued her work researching and studying how various cultures and traditions celebrate body decorations. Parents soon began to hire her for birthday parties to teach dances and skits, while offering Face Painting for their children. After moving to Chicago in 2012, she has worked and done events for Lincoln Park Zoo, The French Markets, Navy Pier, and Soldier Field as a Face Paint artist. Additionally her body art has been featured in Black box theatre performances, National Public Radio (NPR), and a collection of festivals and events across the country. |
